Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker: Roy Jones Jr. Points Out ‘One Dimensional
On December 23, the two former world champions square off.
On the December 23 “Day of Reckoning” programme in Saudi Arabia, two former world heavyweight champions, Deontay Wilder and Joseph Parker, square off in a match that might have far-reaching implications.
While Parker’s victory would be the greatest of his career and would put him in line for a shot at the world title, a victory for Wilder would set up a massive fight with Anthony Joshua that is expected to happen early next year.
Although Wilder isn’t a well-known boxer, the American has a devastating right hand that can be used as the ultimate equalizer. Boxing veteran Roy Jones Jr. has pointed out that Parker must avoid this if he wants to have a fair chance of having his hand raised.
“Joe Parker needs to avoid Wilder’s big right hand, if he can do that, he definitely has a chance because Parker is a very good boxer, better than people think he is, but he has to avoid that big right hand because he’s shown his susceptible to power in the past and Wilder has the biggest punch in the heavyweight division,” Jones told the Action Network.
We’re hoping to see Wilder take on Joshua next, and if both fighters show up ready and in good shape, they should win.”
Though Jones thinks Parker could expose a weakness in Wilder’s skills at the start of the fight, many will be rooting for Wilder to defeat the former WBO world heavyweight champion.
“But the biggest threat in either of those fights is Joe Parker because if he can figure out Deontay Wilder’s right hand, Joe Parker can really pull off the upset against Wilder, and because he has good boxing skills, he can be a real problem against Wilder who is very one dimensional,” Jones went on.
“He can be quite easy to deal with.”
