Novak Djokovic has received several predictions for the 2024 season, which features the Calendar Golden Slam.
Novak Djokovic has received several predictions for the 2024 season that he is not interested in hearing. The world number one has already acknowledged that he can win an Olympic gold medal and all four Grand Slams to make next year even better. However, neither Alex Corretja nor Boris Becker, Djokovic’s former coach, believe he can finish the set and win all the major titles. Djokovic is aiming to win his 11th championship in Melbourne as the Australian Open approaches.
After failing to accomplish the illusive Calendar Golden Slam in 2021, Djokovic will have another opportunity to do so the following year. Two former professionals, however, think the 36-year-old will have an increasingly difficult time winning all five of the major titles and don’t think he will be able to do it.
Even if he continues to progress, Corretja told Eurosport that winning a Golden Slam would be quite unexpected given his advanced age. “It’s understandable that as he ages, his recuperation process changes.
However, he is also experienced and only concentrates on the major competitions, the ones he believes will have a lasting impact on his life. He will undoubtedly continue to win slams, but he is aware that the going to get harder and harder.
Since he was having trouble with an elbow injury in 2018, Djokovic has not dropped a match at the Australian Open. Now, the Serbian is aiming for his eleventh Melbourne victory and his 25th Grand Slam victory overall. Former world No. 2 Corretja thinks the draw is more open than ever despite Djokovic’s continued lead because of the calibre of his opponents.
“They’re growing, they’re getting stronger,” Corretja went on. Additionally, mentally, these players genuinely think they can win a best-of-five Slam match and maintain their performance for an extended period of time.
They were worn out after three or four games. However, I believe you now have players that are capable of seriously bothering Novak. And that, in my opinion, will be the most forthcoming Australian in recent memory.
The Spaniard listed a few opponents to the world No. 1’s dominance in Australia, including potential surprises from Ben Shelton and Sebastian Korda in addition to the usual suspects, including Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev, Holger Rune, Andrey Rublev, and 2023 runner-up Stefanos Tsitsipas. “Beating them won’t be any easier,” Corretja continued.
Corretja, a two-time French Open finalist, is not alone in her belief that Djokovic won’t win all four Majors and the Olympic gold medal in the same year. Rune’s current coach, Becker, was once the coach of the Serbs. He thinks it is more realistic for the 36-year-old to aim for a few Grand Slams in 2024.
The six-time Major winner clarified, “He will be 37 years old next May, whereas Alcaraz and co. will be better and more experienced.” “I believe that Djokovic’s continued success and the younger generation’s stronger relationship would be the best things that may happen for the tennis landscape overall. To put it another way, I still think Djokovic will win one or more Grand Slams. However, I also think that Alcaraz and company will frequently put a wrench in things.
