Rodri has been selected by Chris Sutton as the 2023 Premier League’s finest player.
During BBC’s Football Phone In show, the commentator chose the Manchester City midfielder to be in top spot. Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah of Liverpool completed his top three.
The £63 million (The Independent) player scored a wonderful goal against Sheffield United on Saturday to finish off an incredible year for both himself and his team.
According to Chris Sutton, Rodri was the Premier League’s finest player in 2023.
The Spaniard was undoubtedly crucial to Man City’s treble-winning campaign the previous season, having also scored the crucial winner against Inter Milan in the Champions League final.
Nedum Onuoha, along with Declan Rice of Arsenal and Douglas Luiz of Aston Villa, thinks the 27-year-old has been among the league’s top three midfield players this year.
According to Chris Sutton, Rodri has been the greatest player in the Premier League in 2023.
“First place goes to Rodri, Player of the Season. Rodri, player of the year. In an interview with BBC’s Football Phone In, he discussed the significance of his presence for Manchester City and how, without him, the team is a different entity.
It’s remarkable how Rodri has continued to be excellent this season.
Chris Sutton makes a compelling argument, particularly in light of the fact that Rodri has continued to perform at the same level for Pep Guardiola’s team throughout the year.
It would have been understandable if indications of complacency began to show in the former Atletico Madrid lynchpin’s performances after he had arguably achieved the pinnacle of football success by winning three titles.
But Rodri has not diminished; he is still undoubtedly City’s top player and, once again, the best midfielder in world football.
Not only has he dominated in Europe in a way that is uncommon for an English midfielder, but he has also been the most consistent player in the Premier League this calendar year.
