Amad Diallo 21, had a knee injury during the preseason that kept him out of action for the first few months of the 2023–24 season. However, he has since returned to play.
Amad returned to action on December 30 in the Premier League, coming off the bench against Nottingham Forest. However, due to illness, he was not part in the FA Cup match against Wigan Athletic.
The head coach of the Red Devils, Erik ten Hag, has confirmed that the Ivory Coast international has recovered from the health issue that kept him out of the starting lineup against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
Although Amad has been linked to a loan departure and is rumoured to be interested in playing for Championship leaders Leicester City, the forward has stated that he intends to stay at Old Trafford.
In response to a question concerning Ten Hag, Amad told United Review, “Working with him is really something that doesn’t happen every day.”
He is a driven individual who calls you over to encourage you to work harder even when you’re moving slowly throughout a workout. Coaches that make it clear that you must train hard are the kind I prefer to see. I have a positive relationship with him.”
Amad played the last 36 minutes of Man United’s league match against Forest, and the Ivorian is now hoping to play more in the upcoming days and weeks.
“Well, to tell the truth, I didn’t plan on playing so soon. Because I was recovering from an injury, I had assumed that I might just play for the final ten or fifteen minutes, but the coach’s decision to put me on the field at that precise moment showed that he had faith in me. I was thrilled to have participated in that game,” the player stated.
“Although we didn’t win that game, I still think we should have won, but we’ll go on to the next ones.
We lost that game, but I’ve come in stronger and more motivated to support the squad, as I’ve always wanted to do, and I want to keep going in this direction.
“Whenever the coach calls me up or sends me on the pitch, I want to be always present to help the team.”
Amad had a stellar season while on loan at Sunderland, making 42 appearances across all competitions for the Black Cats, 14 goals, and 4 assists.
The attacker joined Man United from Atalanta BC in the early months of 2021. In his ten appearances for the Red Devils, he has recorded one goal and one assist.
