Mason Greenwood expressed his gratitude to the club’s supporters and that he is having fun on his one-year loan from Manchester United to Getafe.
In 17 games, the 22-year-old has five goals and four assists. This week, he was elected Getafe’s player of the month by La Liga supporters. Because of this, he is rumored to be drawing interest from teams like Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, even if his present team wants to cling onto him.
Greenwood gained his summer loan move upon United informing him he had no future at Old Trafford following an internal probe after the Crown Prosecution Service dismissed accusations of attempted rape, violence and coercive control against him in February 2023. Since the charges initially surfaced in January 2022, the forward, who has not been on the pitch for United, has consistently refuted all of the accusations.
Some Getafe supporters welcomed him with open arms when he arrived in August, but some also demonstrated against the transfer.
This season, Greenwood has started all but three of the games. He has thanked the fans and shared his best memory thus far, saying he feels at home in Spain now. When asked by the club media how he is adjusting to life at Getafe, the attacker replied, “Everything’s fine.” I adjusted really rapidly.
I’ve been delighted coming here to train and play the games ever since teammates took me under their wing. I’m content.
“The fans mean a lot to me,” he continued. The greatest sensation I’ve had thus far was when I scored my first goal at this stadium; it meant a lot to me, and I could hear the supporters cheering.
We always value the fans because they came out in large numbers to see our training day. When they’re backing us, they’re like an additional man on the pitch.
Greenwood has until 2025 to complete his United contract.
