Joshua Kimmich has stated that he is “concentrating on” his current club, despite reports that he will be moving during the summer transfer window.
With 21 appearances in all competitions this season, one goal and six assists, the Germany international is still a key member of Bayern’s squad.
That being said, there have been rumors that the 28-year-old will leave the German team this summer in pursuit of a new challenge. His contract at Allianz Arena expires in June 2025.
Man City is rumoured to be eager to capture the midfield player before the 2024–25 season, while Barcelona is thought to have a long-term interest in him.
According to a recent source, Man City was thinking of making an official move for the German player in January, but they are now willing to wait until the end of the season.
Kimmich has stated that he is “concentrating on Bayern” and anticipates being contacted by the team soon to talk about a potential extension.
“To be honest, I’m just focused on Bayern,” Kimmich stated to Sky Deutschland. “I didn’t find moving to be at all problematic in the cold.
“I believe that at some point, the club will approach me and we will sit down together. We won’t discuss anything with you; instead, we will talk among ourselves.”
Since joining Bayern from Stuttgart in the summer of 2015, Kimmich has made 368 appearances for the team in all competitions, tallying 100 assists and scoring 41 goals.
If it turns out that the midfield player won’t be signing a new contract with Bayern, he might be available for as low as £25 million throughout the summer, according to some reports.
During his time at Munich, Kimmich has seen great success, taking home 20 trophies in all, including eight Bundesliga crowns and the Champions League championship in 2019–20.
The German was on the pitch for the entire ninety minutes as Bayern returned to action after the winter break, winning 3-0 against Hoffenheim on Friday night.
Barcelona’s financial difficulties may make it difficult for them to sign Kimmich this summer, but Man City should be able to make a bid for him after the end of the current campaign.
