What Andy Robertson did while out of commission following every Liverpool victory and the latest injury report from Curtis Jones
Curtis Jones has declared himself fit to play in Wednesday’s League Cup semi-final against Fulham.
The midfielder was doubtful for the second half of the match after hobbling off in Sunday’s 4-0 victory against AFC Bournemouth. The midfielder levelled for Liverpool against the Cottagers at Anfield in the first leg earlier this month as the Reds ran out 2-1 winners.
When giving a preview of the match, assistant manager Pep Lijnders would affirm that the 22-year-old had escaped injury. Furthermore, Jones has since provided an update on the slight setback, allaying any anxieties himself.
“I’m fine,” he declared. I just experienced mild hamstring pain that has persisted for a few days. My leg was scanned, and the muscle looks good.
“It will be there for a little while because there was some tendon soreness. However, I’m good and prepared to go.
Jones is not the only player who has given Jurgen Klopp a lift in terms of injuries before the match against Fulham; Lijnders also declared that Andy Robertson would be making his comeback to the team against the Cottagers following a three-month absence.
Since dislocating his shoulder during the October international break, the Scotland international has been out. Kostas Tsimikas and Joe Gomez have filled in at left-back for him.
In his absence, Robertson has allowed Liverpool to open up a five-point lead at the top of the table, advance to the FA Cup fourth round, the League Cup semifinals, and the Europa League round of 16.
Although the Scot hasn’t been able to influence things on the field, Jones revealed how Robertson is still very much involved in the locker room.
Jones told the club website, “He’s a big, big part of our team and always has been, and not just for his football.” It’s also more about his persona in the area.
Though his injury and length of absence have caused him hardship, he has remained the same guy whenever he has been around, constantly wanting to joke and smiling when he sees the other boys who are doing well.
And he’s constantly among the young guys that come in and play games—Conor (Bradley), for instance. Con would admit that if he plays games well and does well, he will always receive a text from him.
Harvey (Elliott) and others who entered, such as Cody (Gakpo) and Dom (Szoboszlai), were in the same boat. Let’s say he’s a family man. We are very happy to have him back and are eager for him to get back involved with the squad.”
