Niclas Füllkrug scored his first hat-trick for Borussia Dortmund in their 3-1 victory over Bochum on Saturday night, propelling Die Schwarzgelben back into the top four. However, the German forward acknowledged that their performances still need to be improved.
We got off to a fantastic start in the game because Donny won the penalty. Fortunately, Bochum made a comeback. Frequently, we were unable to locate our teammates holding the last ball. We occasionally exercised diligence in our high press, but we didn’t follow through when it was really necessary. Despite winning three games, scoring ten goals to one, and never being in danger, there are still a few areas that might be improved. As you can see, being able to work on things and train a lot is currently beneficial to us. Each training session ends with me scoring my three penalties. Füllkrug directed to BVB-TV.
Within three minutes, Manuel Riemann of Bochum took down Donyell Malen, and Füllkrug comfortably converted the penalty. However, Bochum responded with a goal through Nico Schlotterbeck of BVB, when the German defender miscommunicated with Alexander Meyer and put the ball in his own net.
Füllkrug would give his team the lead once more in the 72nd minute after latching onto a looping cross from Marcel Sabitzer. He would then go on to complete his hat-trick in the 90th minute following Jamie Bynoe-Gittens’ foul inside the box.
With his hat-trick, Füllkrug has now scored nine goals and provided five assists in 19 Bundesliga games this season.
