According to reports, Andretti has started working on their Formula 1 car and has hired a number of high-profile drivers from elite teams, indicating their intention to compete on the F1 grid soon.
The decision currently rests with Formula One Management (FOM) following clearance from the FIA last year, which has caused varied reactions from the current 10 teams. Mercedes’ Toto Wolff opposed Andretti’s possible entry, but Zak Brown of McLaren offered support.
The announcement of Andretti’s partnership with General Motors in 2023 confirmed their ambitions to compete in Formula One and envisioned the creation of the Andretti Cadillac squad. Interestingly, at least one American driver will be fielded; Colton Herta is clearly the front-runner.
Despite continuous talks, The Athletic claims that behind-the-scenes work is well advanced, with development on a car model having started in the wind tunnel. Andretti’s ambitious entry into Formula 1 is propelled by the establishment of a satellite base at Silverstone, which employs 120 committed workers.
Key signings made by Andretti
Nick Chester, Andretti’s recently hired technical director, stated, “It’s a team that wants to do it right and wants to win.”
“That is the ethos that you want to be present wherever you are. Before I joined, when I first started talking about it, it seemed really appealing because of the resources and effort that would be required to make it successful.
We’ve welcomed new members from McLaren, Ferrari, Mercedes, and Red Bull. Each of them desired a fresh challenge. What makes it so alluring is the actual ability to mold departments.
