Mo Salah will not play against Chelsea or Arsenal in the near future, but Mo Salah may make a comeback for Liverpool’s Premier League encounter against Burnley on February 10.
At the Africa Cup of Nations on January 18, Salah sustained a hamstring injury during Egypt’s 2-2 tie with Ghana. He then had treatment back in Merseyside. Egypt lost against the Democratic Republic of Congo on Sunday without their lucky charm, ending hopes that he would be able to compete in the tournament in the Ivory Coast.
The Reds’ next two games are against Chelsea at Anfield on Wednesday night and Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday. Klopp, who has welcomed Thiago Alcantara back to training after a 10-month sabbatical, has ruled out his star forward for both matches, although he has refrained from mentioning an extended absence.
“There was no pressure on him other than wanting to get fit as quickly as possible anyway,” he stated. “We take our time. Thiago wouldn’t be out for ten months if you could speed up the mending process. Mo isn’t prepared. I’m out of this game and out of the next one. Though he’s not available right now, it could have been worse.”
With just 18 months remaining on his contract—the same amount as vice captain Trent Alexander-Arnold and captain Virgil van Dijk of the Reds—Salah’s future has become uncertain.
Though he will be leaving in the summer, Klopp says there is nothing to worry about.
“It’s entirely typical,” he declared. “It’s obvious that you won’t have time to process anything outside of yourself. Nobody knew about my condition a week ago. Nobody inquired, and they were still under contract for 18 months. You don’t need to worry. I’m absolutely positive that everything will be alright. It is advisable to maintain composure.
“The club was aware of my departure for some time. Why tie the players down just to tell them I’m leaving? That isn’t how you conduct business.
It’s quite typical that they want to know a little bit more. Things require time. Folks at home, don’t be concerned. It’s alright. This is a spot the boys adore. I am positive about that.”
