Cody Rhodes gets emotional in Sami Zayn promotion segment as WWE Raw goes off the air.
WWE star Cody Rhodes thanked the fans for their tremendous support over the past few days in an emotional address that he gave following this week’s “WWE Raw” broadcast.
Following the news that The Rock, not Rhodes, would battle Roman Reigns at “The Show of Shows,” WWE fans took to social media to express their annoyance at Rhodes’ inability to wrap up his story at WrestleMania 40.
Sami Zayn, who was with Cody when “Raw” aired, talked about the outpouring of support for “The American Nightmare” following the events of last week’s “WWE SmackDown.” He underlined that it doesn’t matter what the wrestlers or he thinks of Cody; what matters is what the fans think of him. Prior to Rhodes taking the stage, Zayn encouraged the audience to chant “We Want Cody”. The male Royal Rumble champion, in a tearful promo, expressed his gratitude to the fans for their support, revealing that it is something he has always craved.
All I can say about those three words, “We Want Cody,” is that I’ve always wanted you, therefore it’s wonderful for you to want me since I’ve loved everything since I was a tiny child. Rhodes began, “I love you guys so much, I’m sorry I’m an emotional mess.” He then praised Zayn for saving him and invited the audience to applaud.
This past week, Rhodes made his television debut on “Raw,” where he won a bullrope match against Shinsuke Nakamura. However, Drew McIntyre—who had earlier in the evening pushed Cody to wrap up his story—attacked him following the game. Zayn, who has experienced problems with McIntyre, kept Rhodes for the end of “Raw.” Along with thanking his supporters on social media, “The American Nightmare” asked people to “trust” him with his current situation.
