Ian Maatsen likely to leave Chelsea on a permanent deal this summer
There is a perception that Ian Maatsen will permanently leave Chelsea this summer, as revealed by Fabrizio Romano.
Since going on loan to Borussia Dortmund this winter, the 21-year-old has already made an impression. The full-back was honoured with the January Rookie of the Month Award after starting every game for BVB.
Maatsen has subsequently established himself as the starting left back, filling in for Ramy Bensebaini and Julian Ryerson. Furthermore, Maatsen has shown himself to be a reliable defensive player; as a result, Dortmund only gave up one goal in January.
The 21-year-old’s loan with BVB is set to expire in the summer, and according to the terms of the agreement, there was no option to buy included in the loan move. He will then return to Chelsea. The child’s current contract with the Premier League team does, however, include a release clause.
It’s unknown how much Maatsen will be released by Chelsea and if BVB will have the money to pay for the left back.
