Bernardo Silva, suffered a “big knock” on his ankle during Tuesday night’s 1-3 victory away to Copenhagen.
Bernardo Silva, the great midfielder for Manchester City, was at the centre of Manchester City’s superb attacking play in their UEFA Champions League last-16 first leg against FC Copenhagen this week, scoring the club’s second goal of the night on the stroke of half-time.
Bernardo Silva skillfully lifted the ball over the well-formed Kamil Grabara from an angle inside the Copenhagen penalty area, combining with Kevin De Bruyne to great effect. Earlier in the half, Silva had given the hosts an equaliser, but now he restored Manchester City’s lead.
With fifteen minutes of regulation time remaining, Silva’s game would be ended due to a strong challenge from Kevin Diks that left the midfield player limping and with a torn ankle sock; the tackle itself only resulted in a yellow card.
After the match in the Danish capital, Pep Guardiola addressed the media and stated, “Bernardo has a big knock in his ankle.” Bernardo Silva was substituted after Kevin Diks gave him a hard challenge.
In order for the 29-year-old to heal in time for Manchester City’s forthcoming Premier League match against Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea on Saturday evening, Guardiola is hopeful that the player’s injury is not a serious concern.
I hope Bernardo Silva is not too much of a problem,” the Manchester City manager went on. We have Chelsea at home in a few days, so we need to get well as soon as possible.
As his team returns to Manchester on Wednesday afternoon, Pep Guardiola has several injury concerns, Bernardo Silva being one of them. The most serious injury suffered this week was to Jack Grealish.
The England international was forced off the field during what seemed to be a groyne injury during his first start for the team in a number of games. Additional tests at the City Football Academy will be necessary to determine the exact degree of the injury.
