Pep Guardiola likens Kevin De Bruyne to wines from Italy.
Kevin De Bruyne’s Champions League performance against Copenhagen left Pep Guardiola so impressed that he likened the Belgian star to the Italian wines Brunello di Montalcino and Sassicaia.
Tuesday’s Champions League Round of 16 first leg between Manchester City and Copenhagen ended in a 3-1 victory thanks to goals and assists from De Bruyne.
Guardiola grinned and said, “A Brunello di Montalcino or Sassicaia, surely yes,” in response to Sky Sport Italia’s question on whether the 32-year-old could be likened to a good Italian wine. When he returned to the game after a five-month hiatus, he felt fresh both mentally and physically. He offered his input. He once again shown why he is unique.
Guardiola, a former midfielder for Brescia and Roma, participated in 28 league games and scored three goals in the Italian top division. In October 2001, he made his league debut for Brescia against Chievo Verona, a 2-2 tie.
Erling Haaland, the star striker for Guardiola, recently visited Italy to get cashmere goods from Brunello Cucinelli, the most well-known producer in the nation.
The Champions League is now being defended by Manchester City, who won it for the first time ever last season after defeating Inter 1-0 in an Istanbul-based Final.
