Throughout David Raya’s challenging debut season as the Arsenal keeper, Mikel Arteta has continuously supported the Spaniard, but he now feels that the player is emerging.
David Raya does things that people “don’t even see,” according to Mikel Arteta, who has once again thrown his support behind the goalie.
After joining Arsenal in the summer from Brentford and replacing Aaron Ramsdale as the starting goalkeeper, Raya has had a mixed debut season. But manager Arteta has always supported the Spaniard, and he is now beginning to show indications of maturity.
Only two goals have been surrendered by the Gunners keeper in his last four games, all of which Arsenal has won. Leandro Trossard’s goal was the result of a play that Raya started in the 5-0 victory over Crystal Palace to start that run. Moments like those have persuaded Arteta that Raya is without a doubt his top choice. However, the manager of the Gunners has acknowledged that there have been further instances where he has demonstrated his abilities that the public and commentators have overlooked.
“What I appreciate about David is his goal-oriented actions – the things he keeps us from seeing because he foresees them and keeps them from happening,” Arteta added.
He lived in a really difficult situation, but I adore that about him. The athletes with bravery, integrity, and individuality. Even in these situations, people strive to be authentic and want to be who they are.
“I’m thrilled for him because he deserves respect and has earned it. Since they are so willing, I believe it’s a terrific opportunity to try out different players in different roles and locations and see how they respond.
“And that sometimes gives you a different solution that you hadn’t thought of, because the situation requires and when you have players that are willing to change it and to do it, normally good things happen.”
Speaking following two straight losses, Raya claimed he had become accustomed to the demands of playing for Arsenal. The victory vs Palace came after two previous losses. He also exhorted his teammates to keep up their strong play, which has them in the running for the championship.
“I believe it takes time to become used to a new squad, club, facilities, and expectations. Though it’s not easy, I believe I am now settling in and discovering who I am. Everyone’s victory in the game was crucial,” he stated.
Naturally, I feel like a member of the group. Today’s performance has demonstrated our ability to defeat anyone at the greatest level. Saying that we are here and will fight for everything is the point that is being made here.
“You always have tough times during a season, and every team experiences them. We have just finished a challenging few weeks. We won today’s game and received our feedback as a result. We needed this kind of victory.
“We believe the entire game was excellent, including the way we defended, scored goals, and played. I thought the game was extremely excellent overall, but obviously, there are always areas we can improve on.”
