Jannik Sinner will reach a career-high of World Number Three in the coming weeks, possibly as early as this Monday depending on the outcome of the final in Rotterdam.
Because Daniil Medvedev decided not to play in Rotterdam or Doha, Sinner has profited this week from his dropping rating and the Australian Open champion taking over the World Number Three place.
The world number three will be him on Monday if he wins the Sunday final in Rotterdam. There is no doubt that he will set a new career high if he loses; he will finish third in the world behind Doha. That will happen eventually.
In addition, he rises to become the all-time top-ranked male tennis player from Italy. He had tied Adriano Panatta for the highest ranking ever in fourth place after winning the Australian Open and rising to World Number 4. However, he is about to formally attain a status that has never been held by any other Italian man.
All eyes will be on him not only to attempt and win the title and a second one of the year at that but also the rating that will come with it. Only a tough final exam against Australian ace Alex de Minaur will stop him from declaring that new statistic early.
