The return of several injured players is something Arsenal is hoping will help them in the coming days.
With five straight wins and 21 goals scored the Gunners have put their Premier League title challenge squarely back on track in recent weeks.
Significant wins over Burnley and West Ham have been achieved without the services of players like Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus, who are almost back to full strength, and Fabio Vieira and Thomas Partey, who are all nearing full recovery from longer-term ailments.
Even though Jurrien Timber is still out and is not expected to return, Takehiro Tomiyasu is another player who might bolster the Gunners before their Champions League trip to Porto in midweek.
Here is the most recent information on Arsenal injuries and expected return dates.
Takehiro Tomiyasu
Since his return from the Asian Cup, Takehiro Tomiyasu has not appeared in any games for Arsenal.
Arsenal claims that the adaptable defender suffered a “niggle” while playing for Japan. As a result, he was left out of the team for the victory over Burnley over the weekend.
But, it’s not seen to be a major problem, as Tomiyasu might play in the Champions League this coming Wednesday.
Possible date of return: Wednesday, February 21 against Porto
Thomas Partey
Four months have passed since Thomas Partey last participated in the competition due to a thigh injury.
Partey experienced a setback that prevented him from participating in the Africa Cup of Nations with Ghana and prevented him from training at Arsenal for several days. But when questioned last week, Arteta had a more upbeat assessment of the circumstances.
“Thomas Partey is making great progress,” the Arsenal manager stated. “He’s already on the field, and it looks great.”
When asked if the midfield player might make a comeback in the upcoming weeks, Arteta responded, “Hopefully.”
Possible date of return: March 2024
Gabriel Jesus
After playing a key role in the victory over Nottingham Forest, Gabriel Jesus has missed the last three games due to a knee injury.
At the time, Arteta emphasized that it was a “short-term” problem, but given Jesus’ history of knee issues, there were worries.
Jesus, like Tomiyasu, is said to be nearing his return for the Gunners and may be active in Portugal.
Possible date of return: Wednesday, February 21 against Porto
Oleksandr Zinchenko
Earlier this month, when playing Liverpool, Oleksandr Zinchenko was substituted at halftime when Arteta reported he “felt something in his calf.”
That prevented him from playing in the victories over Burnley and West Ham; in his place, Jakub Kiwior did a great job at left-back. There has been no official word on Zinchenko’s injury.
Possible date of return: Wednesday, February 21 against Porto
Fabio Vieira
Regarding Fabio Vieira, who had surgery on his groin in November, there is good news.
As he gets closer to making a comeback, he has accelerated his recuperation in recent weeks and is rumored to be pressing to be included in the team against Porto.
Last Friday, Arteta stated, “He’s very close.” He has been working out with the team for a few days already.
In my opinion, it’s quite close. He’s in fantastic health and will likely return sooner than we anticipated.
Possibly scheduled for Wednesday, February 21, 2024, against Porto
Timber Jurrien
Jurien Timber, who made his Premier League debut on the first day of the season, has been sidelined due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
The defender has been chosen for the team for the Champions League knockout stages, and there is hope that he may return before the season ends.
Arteta responded, “It was a huge blow,” when questioned about Timber’s injuries. “It was evident to all from the start what he would bring to the team.”Adaptability, excellence, and guidance. and a skill that the backline lacked for us. It was a severe blow.
