Brock Lesnar was mentioned as the ideal opponent by the current WWE Intercontinental Champion Gunther last year. Things took an unexpected turn last month when Lesnar was allegedly linked to the sex trafficking case against Vince McMahon, John Laurinaitis, and WWE, despite reports that the two were scheduled to square off for the first time at WWE WrestleMania 40. Since then, Lesnar has disappeared from several WWE publications, and it appears he will no longer be employed by the organization. The former WWE Champion’s unclear future with the TKO Grup Holdings-owned organization was discussed by Gunter in a recent interview with GVWire.
“I always was vocal about my dream match in the past, but that fell through now,” stated Gunther. “It’s uncertain whether we’ll have another chance to see Brock in the future. But as of right now, I’m very open to that.”
It’s unknown who Gunther will face at WrestleMania 40 because Lesnar has been cut from WWE’s creative plans going forward. Gunther will not be participating in this weekend’s men’s Elimination Chamber match in Australia to select Seth Rollins’ opponent for the two-night event, despite rumors that he may challenge for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in April.
Giovanni Vinci, Ludwig Kaiser, and Gunther have recently been engaged in conflict with The New Day, which consists of Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods, and Jey Uso. Tonight on “WWE Raw” in Anaheim, California, “The Ring General” will defend the WWE Intercontinental Championship against Uso for the first time since January 29.
