Francis Ngannou is presently being prepped by Dewey Cooper for his upcoming boxing battle.
Dewey Cooper, the coach of Francis Ngannou, has indicated that he would like to fight John Fury, the father of WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.
Though news of John Fury is always present on big fight nights, Cooper is presently getting Ngannou ready for his matchup with former world champion Anthony Joshua on March 8 live on DAZN PPV.
In addition to criticizing boxing icon Mike Tyson prior to Ngannou’s battle with Tyson Fury last year, Fury has been embroiled in a recent back-and-forth with former super middleweight champion Carl Froch.
Since then, Cooper has reacted to Fury’s calls and hinted that perhaps a bout with the 59-year-old might be enough to convince him to put on the gloves.
“John Fury was interested in taking on Mike Tyson because it would be a high-profile match and lucrative. Why not? I don’t blame him.” Cooper stated to Mirror Fighting.
He could call me out, and I would fight him. I currently work as a coach and have given up fighting, but I still train and will continue to do so if the desire arises.”
Cooper went on to explain why it might be a step into the unknown to take on Fury in a boxing ring.
“I cannot say because I haven’t seen him fight; the only fighters I really watch are the legends I grew up loving and my fighters’ opponents,” Cooper said.
Since he is the father of one of the greatest athletes, Tyson Fury, I wouldn’t undervalue his abilities.
He wouldn’t be so self-assured if he couldn’t fight, I’m sure. If he wants to box, I’d totally take it, but I just need enough time to practice to fight anyone. Naturally, I would have to research him to find out what he excels at and work to undermine it.
