Wataru Endo, a midfielder for Liverpool, thinks that winning the Carabao Cup final will give them the extra motivation they need to continue challenging on three fronts.
The matchup between the Reds and Chelsea on Sunday is a rematch from 2022 at Wembley, which Jurgen Klopp’s team ultimately won 11–10 on penalties despite the absence of just one player, keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Though Mohamed Salah is a fifth player and is currently doubtful due to a minor issue after completing his comeback from a hamstring problem at Brentford, just four of that Liverpool starting XI are expected to be in the team this weekend due to several high-profile departures, and injuries.
The severity of the injury crisis was exposed during Liverpool’s 4-1 victory over Luton on Wednesday when Klopp started a bench that included four academy players and three defenders. If this trend persists, it will significantly hurt Liverpool’s chances of competing in the FA Cup, Europa League, Premier League, and which they currently lead.
However, Endo stated that winning a trophy gives players a boost, and for several players on the Reds team, including the Japan international, Sunday will be their first opportunity to play for the side.
The £16 million summer signing stated, “I think it would have a positive impact on the other competitions we’re competing in if we could win this first one.”
“A victory at Wembley would invigorate us for the upcoming challenges.” I can’t wait to play there. This will be my first visit to a stadium this unique.
I would find great meaning in it. I’m committed to giving it my all to help Liverpool win the championship since it would be my first championship with the team.
“The manager has talked to us about maintaining our composure and demonstrating our loyalty to Liverpool. That’s what we did to Luton.
“We just concentrate on the next game in front of us, not too much thought is given to injured players.”
After announcing his intention to quit at the end of the season, Sunday marks the first noteworthy occasion in Klopp’s protracted farewell.
When the news first surfaced, Endo was away at the Asian Cup. However, the 31-year-old, who has since shown his doubters wrong by playing as a holding midfielder in an emergency, is eager to reward the manager’s confidence.
“I was disappointed to learn of that. I love playing football with him and seeing him play,” he remarked.
“I truly want us to win titles for him before he leaves, but it’s upsetting.
“I only spent one season playing for Jurgen. He has really helped me, but maybe others who have been here longer are more emotional.
The former Stuttgart midfielder has solidified his position as the team’s anchor following a challenging debut in English football. Alexis Mac Allister was expected to take on this role when Fabinho left for Saudi Arabia in the summer.
“Being a Liverpool player is difficult. Endo continued, “There’s always a lot of pressure.”
“Being a Premier League player is challenging, but I’ve wanted this for a long time, so I try to enjoy myself and give it my all every time.”
“I think I’ve grown throughout the season, and that has given me more confidence.”
