When asked about Antoine Griezmann’s injury rehabilitation, Diego Simeone, the head coach of Atletico Madrid, gave a candid comment.
The French international was substituted during the last moments of Atletico’s 1-0 first leg Champions League loss against Inter Milan.
Based on preliminary reports, Griezmann was side-lined for a few weeks due to a moderate-grade ankle sprain.
In the midweek Copa del Rey semi final second leg against Athletic Club, his participation is in jeopardy, but that timeline maintains him scheduled to play Inter in the return leg on March 13.
Simeone maintained that starting the 32-year-old at the San Siro after resting him for the 5-0 victory in Las Palmas was the right decision, even though the player will not play this weekend against Almeria.
According to Marca reports, “I have no regrets over not resting Griezmann at Inter.”
“He will come back when he is well; we won’t be forcing him in any way.”
Having scored eighteen goals in all competitions this season, Griezmann’s injury has Atletico fans waiting anxiously for information.
With Griezmann emerging victorious in 2022, Simeone’s team has only triumphed once in their previous six trips to the Estadio San Mames. They travel to Bilbao behind 1-0 from the first leg.
