Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Gabriel Jesus has experienced a setback in his recovery from injury, extending his time on the sidelines once again.
Gabriel Jesus has not been able to play before Saturday’s match against Newcastle United since he disclosed in January that he was having trouble with the same knee that needed surgery in December 2022.
Jesus had experienced a small setback in his recuperation, Arteta disclosed prior to the match. He assured supporters that there is no cause for concern, but promised to allow the Brazilian adequate time to fully heal.
“We couldn’t resolve that as quickly as we wanted and he had a small reaction in training again,” Arteta stated.
“We didn’t want to take any more risks because he’s been out for quite a while and he’s a player that we need at his best and we decided to give him a few more days.”
For Arsenal supporters, Arteta’s announcement that defender Jurrien Timber is getting closer to returning to light training was encouraging.
Timber’s season is still ongoing, according to Arteta, despite the Dutch international’s ACL injury sustained on the first weekend of the Premier League season.
“I sincerely hope Timber returns this season,” Arteta remarked. He is doing incredibly well.
He’s been on the pitch with a few players. In the coming week or so, he will begin doing some drills with us on the pitch. After that, we’ll need to assess his performance, confidence, and degree of fitness. I hope the response is in the affirmative.”
