It is well known that prior to the allegations of betting against him, Lucas Paqueta, the star of West Ham, was on the verge of signing with Manchester City in the summer.
But because of the FA dispute, the rumoured £85 million move to Man City fell through.
West Ham, who have struggled mightily without Lucas Paqueta for the past two months, will be thanking their lucky stars that this was the case.
Paqueta disputes the accusations, but that inquiry continues to loom large.
Even now, Manchester City wants Paqueta.
There are still rumours circulating that Manchester City would revive the Paqueta agreement with West Ham during the summer transfer window.
Paqueta’s associates are pressuring the FA to reach a resolution so he can achieve that “dream” move, especially since it has come to light.
Fans of the Hammers are obviously opposed to their Brazilian hero leaving.
And there’s excellent news for West Ham as a major twist in Man City’s quest for Paqueta.
Silva is lined up for West Ham as the agreement changes.
Because according to The Telegraph, the champs can only sign Paqueta in the event that Bernardo Silva is sold.
And it might be far easier said than done to sell Silva. He recently signed a contract extension that will last another two years. He turns 30 in the summer, and transfer spending has become more restrictive throughout all of Europe.
It’s not mentioned clearly, but it seems like a clear indication that Man City is being more cautious with deals as a result of the 115 FFP accusations looming large over them.
According to the rumour, Man City will only sign West Ham’s Paqueta if Silva can be traded.
Thus, it will offer the Hammers hope that they might be able to hang onto their playmaker for at least another season, if not longer.
Paqueta might spend an additional year at West Ham due to an FA charge.
It follows the news that Manchester City is more motivated than ever to capture the Hammers player in the summer, according to journalist Graeme Bailey.
Bailey reports, “HiTC has been informed by sources that Manchester City fully intends to make a new bid this summer for West Ham United attacking midfielder Lucas Paqueta.”
“After being rejected for a transfer to City last summer, Paceta’s camp became extremely angry. They are now pressing the FA to make their findings public in order to ensure that they don’t affect his future once more.”
Without being certain they can get Paqueta from West Ham, Man City will not sell Silva.
Furthermore, any agreement between the Hammers and the champs may take a long time to finalise.
