Again, it’s Harry Kane to the rescue. The England striker gave Bayern Munich a 2-1 Bundesliga victory over Leipzig on Saturday, ending their three-game losing run in all competitions.
In the first minute of stoppage time, Kane scored to secure three points for the Bavarian powerhouse, bringing his total to 27 goals in 23 Bundesliga games for Bayern.
With eleven rounds left, Bayern were eight points behind leader Bayer Leverkusen despite winning their 1,000th home game in the Bundesliga.
Before Bochum rallied from behind to win 3-2 in the Bundesliga last weekend, Bayern had previously lost 3-0 at Leverkusen and 1-0 at Lazio in the Champions League.
As a result, the team declared on Wednesday that head coach Thomas Tuchel would be leaving at the end of the current campaign.
Thomas Müller, a forward for Bayern, stated, “We’re all in the same boat.” “With three losses in a row, it hasn’t been an easy time to be a Bayern player, so we’re very happy today,”
After Kane scored the game-winning goal, Tuchel took some time to celebrate, and only after Müller prodded him.
Tuchel remarked, “I’m just happy for the players, for the effort, for the performance.” “It’s favourable because Harry scored, which was crucial for both him and us. Enough games have been won by Leverkusen very, very late. Now it’s our turn.
Before kickoff, there was a moment of silence in honour of World Cup winner Andreas Brehme from 1990, who passed away earlier in the week. For the match, players from Bayern also wore black armbands.
Bayern had more opportunities, and Leipzig’s backup custodian Janis Blaswich made a fantastic early stop to keep Kane out.
Coach Gareth Southgate of England was present to watch Kane and defender Eric Dier play. At halftime, though, Southgate must have also heard a few disgruntled whistles from Bayern supporters.
In the first half, Tuchel discovered a metal box to sit on, and he went in search of it so he could use it again in the second half.
After the break, Leipzig showed greater desire as Amadou Haidara forced Bayern’s Manuel Neuer to make a save. Then, Mohamed Simakan came near for Leipzig.
However, in the 56th, Kane scored following a strong counterattack move by Jamal Musiala.
In the 61st minute, Neuer denied Benjamin Šeško a one-on-one opportunity, but in the 70th minute, after Leon Goretzka misled him, he was unable to prevent the Slovenian from scoring.
Kane saved Bayern from suffering yet another setback.
Neuer declared, “We deserved to win because we played the better game.”
VAR Rejects Dahlstedt
In a 1-1 draw with Werder Bremen, last-place Darmstadt had two late goals disallowed by video assistant refereeing and gave up an own goal.
Tim Skarke of Darmstadt believed he had won the match in the seventh minute of injury time, but the goal was disallowed because Bremen custodian Michael Zetterer’s effort to clear the ball struck Skarke’s arm.
In the 78th minute, Skarke’s second goal was disallowed for offside; however, Bremen was able to tie the score in the 8th minute thanks to an own goal by Christoph Zimmermann.
Stuttgart, in third position, lost 1-1 to visiting Cologne. It was still six points ahead of Borussia Dortmund going into Sunday’s match against Hoffenheim.
In their battle to avoid relegation, Union Berlin and promoted Heidenheim also drew, 2-2, earning a point apiece.
Bochum was trounced 5-2 by Borussia Mönchengladbach as well.
