Harry Kane is poised for his most prolific season to date, even with Bayern Munich’s problems.
The English striker, who signed with the Bundesliga’s top team last summer, has quickly acclimated to German culture and is now Bayern’s most valuable player for the current campaign.
Kane’s total of 31 goals in 31 games this season, including two goals in the 2-1 victory over RB Leipzig over the weekend, suggests that he may be headed for his best-ever season.
If they get to the Champions League final, he might still have 17 games left to play. He now has at least 12 left to play.
Kane is currently in his tenth season as a regular starter for Tottenham, having started with the team in 2014–15 for his first full season. He has already scored some incredible goals.
After scoring 31 goals in 2014–2015, Kane’s lowest scoring seasons were 2018–19 and 2019–20, when he managed a respectable 24 goals.
With 31 goals thus far in his career, this is about normal for Kane; his best season so far was 2017–18, when he scored an incredible 41 goals.
Tottenham advanced to the FA Cup semifinals that season and finished third in the Premier League, behind Manchester United and City.
Kane needs to score 11 goals for Bayern Munich before the end of the season to surpass that total, and as long as he avoids injury, that total should be doable.
Bayern is gearing up for their second-leg matchup with Lazio in the round of 16 and has 11 Bundesliga games remaining, plus at least one in the Champions League.
Since leaving Spurs, he has averaged one goal per game, so if he keeps up his current pace, he might surpass his record.
To advance to the quarterfinals of the Champions League, the German team will need to overcome a 1-0 home loss. They will be trying to go further into the competition.
Kane will also be crucial to Bayern if they want to have any chance of winning the Bundesliga this year.
With an eight-point lead over Bayern Munich at the top of the league right now, Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen have significant work ahead of them if they hope to win the championship again.
Bayern hasn’t had a great season, and Thomas Tuchel has already been informed that he will be fired this summer as a result of the team’s subpar play.
