At the end of 2024, Sergio Perez is one of 13 drivers without a contract.
After a busy winter on the driver market ahead of the new 2024 season, Sergio Perez has reaffirmed that he is only focused on everything related to the racecourse and not on his Formula 1 future.
After this season, 12 drivers, including Carlos Sainz, Esteban Ocon, and Daniel Ricciardo, will see their contracts with Red Bull expire. Perez’s current deal expires at the end of 2024.
In the winter of 2024, the driver market was at its peak, as Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc signed fresh contracts with McLaren and Ferrari, respectively. Lewis Hamilton’s announcement that he will be leaving Mercedes in 2025 to join Leclerc at Ferrari was the biggest surprise of the winter.

In an attempt to make amends following a challenging 2023
Even though Perez lost to Max Verstappen in the drivers’ title, he had a difficult stretch of form in 2023, which included five straight Q3 misses starting at the Monaco Grand Prix.
Perez had a terrible race at the 2023 Japanese Grand Prix, losing his front wing and making contact with Hamilton at Turn 1. It was one of his worst moments. Perez was given a five-second penalty for passing under the yellow flags, and he was given an additional five-second penalty for colliding with Kevin Magnussen. Red Bull first retired Perez, but he was sent back out to serve his punishment before withdrawing once more to avoid a grid penalty for the Qatar Grand Prix.
After his disastrous race at Suzuka, Perez found his form again, finishing in the top five in four of the last five races of 2023, including third at the Las Vegas GP.
“I think we understood a lot of things, and it’s very important that we learn what went wrong and learn from our mistakes,” Perez continued. “This is my fourth year with Red Bull, and I aim to perform at the highest level.
With the modifications we’ve made to the vehicle, I believe it’s all about developing, learning, and improving the vehicle. It doesn’t matter where you start in Bahrain because the season is long; what matters is where you end up in Abu Dhabi.
Thus, it’s crucial to have that improvement even though this is a huge season. That’s going to be my primary goal for this year.
