Turki Alalsheikh, a Saudi royal advisor, has been identified as the man who may bring Anthony Joshua-Tyson Fury together in the ring if both fighters prevail in their next bouts.
The trainer for Anthony Joshua feels that Turki Alalsheikh, a Saudi royal advisor, is the only person who could make a fight against Tyson Fury possible.
Although Fury and Joshua have been associated for nearly ten years, there is now a definite path for the adversaries to square off in the ring should they both prevail in their forthcoming battles. A crack at the undisputed belts that Fury and Oleksandr Usyk square off for on May 18 is guaranteed to “AJ” if he defeats Francis Ngannou on March 8.
Ben Davison used to coach heavyweight champion Fury when he made a comeback to the ring following struggles with mental health and excessive weight gain. However, Joshua’s trainer for the last several fights is Davison. In response to a question on Joshua taking on Fury, Davison spoke with Full Circle. “May I be honest with you? To be honest, I’m not sure.
“One thing I will say, though, is that Turki al-sheik, his Excellency, is the one to accomplish it if it is going to happen. Each time, he delivers. I am aware of situations in which promoters make statements and then follow through on them. For him, the important thing is to do the task at hand and then discuss it. If he has a tonne of work completed and signed off on already and we are just unaware of it, that wouldn’t surprise me.
Unless of course, he’s just that good at finishing everything in a day! You know, I’m not sure. Fans want to see Tyson fight AJ, but his circumstances are a little uncertain when it comes to a potential rematch with Usyk or perhaps Ngannou. Let’s see, they’ve been wanting this war for years.”
Fury was scheduled to face Usyk earlier this month, but the undisputed bout was postponed after Fury cut himself above the eye during a sparring session. By announcing a five-fight wishlist that included a rematch with the Ukrainian, two bouts against Joshua, and a rematch with Ngannou, the British fighter minimized any possibility of quitting following his clash with Usyk.
After suffering back-to-back losses to Usyk last year, Joshua went on to win three straight fights, and many supporters think the Brit appears like a different fighter under Davison. Ngannou told Mirror Fighting in an exclusive discussion that he still thinks a match between Fury and Joshua could go either way, saying, “Fights are something that you can’t predict.”
“It can go either way if you’re not in the ring, even with an outside statistic. Combat sports have the allure that they can always go either way, regardless of the level difference. Given that we now have two outstanding boxers at the top of their games, I’d say 50/50.
