Liverpool’s Premier League match against Nottingham Forest this afternoon saw moments during which Jurgen Klopp was described as “absolutely furious.”
Following a play in which Alexis Mac Allister was knocked over in the 74th minute without a foul being called, Paul Tierney gave the home team a free kick for Conor Bradley’s slight contact with Callum Hudson-Odoi.
After the German expressed his displeasure with the official’s decision, the recipient marched over to the touchline and gave the 56-year-old a lecture.
Paul Gorst, a journalist for the Liverpool Echo who has been following the game on X, wrote at that very moment, “Jurgen Klopp is furious with Paul Tierney for awarding Forest a free-kick near his technical area.” receives a rebuke as their long-standing enmity is reignited.
There is a lot of history between Klopp and Tierney, as any Liverpool supporter is aware, and their relationship still seems to be strong now.
It’s hard to blame the Reds manager for being upset over the extremely soft free kick that Bradley gave to Hudson-Odoi, but we imagine there was a lot of resentment from his team’s fruitless attempt to score the game’s first goal at the City Ground.
Although it’s common for managers to lash out at referees when they feel unfairly treated, the German player was already on thin ice when the game began, one yellow card away from a suspension for Sunday’s pivotal matchup with Manchester City.
Although Tierney may not be well-liked by Liverpool supporters, the visitors haven’t played at their best this afternoon. Maybe we are beginning to feel the effects of the abundance of injuries and the demanding fixture schedule.
