It has been confirmed by Jürgen Klopp that Liverpool will be without a crucial player for a few weeks. It’s not the update Reds supporters were hoping for after a trying time due to injuries.
Though Darwin Núñez and Dominik Szoboszlai have a decent chance of returning today, Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has had a lot of injury problems to deal with this season. The next week, Mohamed Salah ought to resume his training.
However, there would be a considerable wait with custodian Alisson Becker. The Irishman will now be in the team for a longer amount of time, replacing the Brazilian who has been away from the last few games due to injury.
“There is no real timescale on it, but it is a proper muscle injury,” Klopp told reporters. Players vary in how they bounce back from setbacks. I think that’s pretty much all. That one is not brief.”
“It is not that he will be in contention for next week or something like that,” Klopp said. “We will most likely have to wait a few more weeks to see him. Although it is a major injury, it will not finish the season for him; he is training in the gym.”
Kelleher has performed admirably in Alisson’s position thus far. And until Alisson rejoins the team, Klopp is counting on Liverpool’s number two to keep up that form. Kelleher had the option to leave Liverpool in pursuit of more playing time, but his choice to stay put has been amply supported.
“Normally, you have these discussions with players who are ready,” Klopp stated. “With ten alternative spots to play, an outfield player in Caiomhin’s situation would never approach and discuss these kinds of viewpoints.
“With a goalie, things are a little different, but it never got to the point where we had a conversation like, ‘You have to stay, shut up.'” It was just another typical talk regarding his future.
“I had the same perspective that the player would have. He has now participated in numerous games, including many league, League Cup, and Europa League contests. I believe he would now be content with the choice he made in the summer, but you would have to ask him exactly what he thought.
“There cannot be a significant difference between the first and second goalkeepers. Because the demands of football are too great to play custodian for four years in a row in every competition, that position needs to be filled with quality.
“The most crucial thing was that we needed to play more games with him to assist him go to the next stage of his growth. I avoided discussing [Kelleher’s future]. I didn’t think it was a conversation; we talked about it, but I didn’t care who asked since I didn’t think he would go.”
