Former Ducati standout and three-time MotoGP runner-up to Marc Marquez Andrea Dovizioso is planning a spectacular comeback.
After two seasons with Yamaha, Dovizioso announced his retirement from the MotoGP at the end of 2022.
The Italian, who has been involved in motocross since deciding to stop competing in grand prix races, is currently 38 years old and could make a comeback.
Dovizioso has won 15 races in the MotoGP class, and he and Marc Marquez were longtime competitors for the world championship.
Dovizioso stated to MotoGP.com at Mugello, regarding a potential comeback to MotoGP: “I don’t have any plans, but it is always nice when a manufacturer calls you to speak about the future.”
“I had this when I made the decision to retire, but I wasn’t prepared to act because I wanted to pause and take a break.
But since I’m still not too elderly, I always left the door open. Everyone is aware of my emotions, which can aid in the development of a bike. The door is open, but I honestly don’t know right now—it’s too early.”
When considering where Dovizioso might return, Ducati is the obvious place to start, while Gresini might also be an option.
Given that Takaaki Nakagami’s future is uncertain and the Japanese manufacturer may lose Joan Mir, Honda would also make sense for the Italian.
