Darwin Nunez turned to social media following his hat-trick in Uruguay’s friendly 4-0 victory against Mexico the previous evening.
The Liverpool attacker drew attention with an outstanding treble against Jaime Lozano’s team while assisting his nation in getting ready for the forthcoming Copa America. Facundo Pellistri of Manchester United also registered a point.
“Simplemente feliz por mi primer hat-trick con la mas linda del alma,” Nunez wrote in response to his online hat-trick. This translates to Spanish, “Simply happy for my first hat-trick with the most beautiful soul.”
Nunez has been in incredible goal-scoring form ever since Marcelo Bielsa took over as Uruguay’s manager in the summer. In the seven games the Reds forward has played for his nation in the past 12 months, he has netted eight goals and contributed two assists, with at least one goal in each of his last five outings.
For the two seasons that Nunez has been with Liverpool, there has been discussion about his goal-scoring ability. During Jurgen Klopp’s final season as Reds manager, the striker scored eighteen goals for the team in all competitions.
Nunez has still managed to score a respectable amount of goals, although his reliability in front of goal has been questioned. And when he takes over the team this summer, Arne Slot, the club’s new head coach, will have the job of getting the most out of the striker.
The controversy grew over the last few weeks of the season when Nunez appeared to have removed most of his Instagram posts on Liverpool. This gave rise to rumors that Nunez and Klopp were at odds, but the Reds forward seemed to brush those off in a recent interview.
This summer, Slot will be in charge of pre-season training, which is scheduled to start in July. Nunez’s preseason participation, though, will be contingent upon Uruguay’s performance in the Copa America, which concludes on July 15.
Liverpool’s meeting against Real Betis in the US is in just nine days. Before heading across the Atlantic to compete in both the Copa America and Euro 2024, Slot will be in charge of training at the AXA Centre. Players will progressively return to Merseyside at different dates.
