Chelsea are considering increasing their interest in Aaron Ramsdale as Robert Sanchez is set to miss time with a knee injury.
After losing his spot to David Raya, England custodian Ramsdale is set to quit Arsenal, but it’s not a given that the Gunners will allow him to leave in January.
Newcastle is keeping an eye on Ramsdale’s circumstances as well, although at this time they lack the resources to make a permanent move.
After a dismal first half of the season, Chelsea’s manager, Mauricio Pochettino, is pressuring the Chelsea board to buy players with Premier League experience.
Since David Raya joined the team in the summer, Ramsdale has been less active.
There are plenty of suitors for the England international, and Chelsea seems prepared to go on the attack.
Even though he has played less this season, Arteta may be at risk if he were to leave, forcing him to use third-choice custodian Karl Hein, who is 21 years old.
Consequently, Arsenal has the option to reject any approaches—at least until they identify a suitable candidate to take Ramsdale’s capable place.
However, the news that Sanchez would be spending some time in the treatment room following knee assessments has Chelsea more concerned than ever.
The injury occurred during the weekend’s 2-0 loss to Everton, and the Spaniard was taken off the pitch six minutes before halftime.
After moving from Brighton to Madrid in the summer, Sanchez assumed the No. 1 shirt. He took Kepa Arrizabalaga’s place, who went on season-long loan to La Liga powerhouse Real Madrid.
Pochettino appears to be placing his trust in Djordje Petrovic, a summer acquisition who made an appearance in the last moments of the Goodison Park loss.
The 24-year-old Serbian goalkeeper, who formerly played for MLS team New England Revolution, has joined Chelsea and will likely start his debut league game on Saturday at Stamford Bridge against Sheffield United.
