Manchester City appear set to rival some of Europe’s biggest hitters for the signing of Joshua Kimmich as Kalvin Phillips replacement.
Since July 2015, when he signed a €7 million contract to join Bayern from fellow German team Stuttgart, Kimmich has been a member of the team. With 367 games, 41 goals, and 100 assists since then, Kimmich has become as the club’s modern-day symbol.
The 28-year-old has assisted Bayern in winning numerous trophies, such as six DFL-Supercups (German super cups), one FIFA Club World Cup, one UEFA Super Cup, one Champions League, eight Bundesliga crowns, and three DFB-Pokals (German cups).
In 20 appearances in all competitions for Bayern this season, Kimmich has contributed one goal and six assists. When regular captain Manuel Neuer was injured, he also led the team as captain.
Kimmich hasn’t been playing well this term, though. And given that he and Bayern are still in contract negotiations, this may be problematic.
Negotiations over a contract extension will shortly take place, as Kimmich’s present agreement expires in June 2025. However, club executives have issued an ultimatum to the star, stating that should his performances not improve, he will not be able to continue earning such a large salary.
In an interview with CaughtOffside, senior Bild reporter Christian Falk stated, “It’s unclear what will happen with Joshua Kimmich’s future.”
“The club is keeping an eye on him because he isn’t performing at his best right now. Bayern hopes to hold onto him.
Joshua Kimmich and Bayern are in a concerning scenario.
“With a contract that expires in 2025, he is among the highest paid at €20 million annually. They now need to discuss a new deal, and the team is claiming that he isn’t capable of receiving any more for his efforts.
Perhaps both parties will agree to split up if they are unable to come to an agreement.
“Kimmich is the only player at Bayern Munich without an agent, but in order to facilitate his departure to another nation, he would need to adjust that.
“Premier League teams and Barcelona are keeping an eye on him, but if he wants to get a move overseas, he’ll need an agent.” I’ve heard that he’s made inquiries about hiring an agency.
In the event that the 82-cap Germany star decides to leave his own country, he may be transferred to the Premier League.
Liverpool has been mentioned, but as of right now, it doesn’t appear likely. Rather, if Kimmich becomes available for transfer, Man City will be first in queue.
Exclusively to TEAMtalk in October, City expressed confidence that he will choose them over rivals Barcelona.
Thus, in a huge 2024 for the team, we might witness Kalvin Phillips depart the Etihad and Kimmich join as his replacement.
Newcastle United has started discussions about signing Phillips, who is eager to leave City after once again receiving little playing time this season.
Kimmich would be a fantastic substitute for Phillips in Pep Guardiola’s midfield given his stature in the competition. Furthermore, Kimmich’s likelihood of leaving Bayern is only increasing.
Meanwhile, a source claims that a “future superstar” creating a reputation for himself in Spain has stunned City scouts.
