Jadon Sancho was slammed by German media after Borussia Dortmund’s loss
German media referred to Man United loanee Jadon Sancho as the “worst player on the pitch” following his brief appearance in Borussia Dortmund’s most recent league loss.
On Sunday night, Dortmund lost 3-2 to Hoffenheim, with Maximilian Beier scoring a brace to give the visitors three points. Sancho found it difficult to make an effect.
The former United outcast returned to the Black and Yellows for a loan arrangement in January, marking his ninth appearance for the team this season.
Despite the expectation of many that the winger, who was a member of Dortmund from 2017 to 2021, would return to his former form, the reverse has happened.
He’s been under fire for his performances even though he registered two assists in his first two games back and hasn’t contributed a goal since.
German news source Der Westen commented on Sancho’s appearance, saying that the team was “very happy” that Sancho had returned during the winter transfer window. At last, the prodigal son has returned.
“He truly brought the fans to a rapturous state of bliss.” A few weeks later, it’s completely gone from sight. The fans were hoping that the 23-year-old would finally net his first goal against TSG Hoffenheim.
However, they were let down once more. The BVB player was perhaps the worst player on the pitch against Hoffenheim, putting on yet another subpar display.
Sancho did not manage to register a shot on target or a precise cross for teammates during his 75 minutes of play in the game.
After a falling out between United boss Erik ten Hag and the £73 million winger, the England international went back to his former team last month.
While Dortmund’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl has already all but ruled out making Sancho’s loan permanent, United may try to transfer the player in the summer.
Kehl claimed that Ian Maatsen, a Chelsea loanee, was in a similar circumstance.
Unfortunately, none of the options was practical for either player. He said to Sky Sports Germany, “If you know what we got for Jadon Sancho two and a half years ago, then you know also that it might not be very, very difficult.”
“We supported an option on him and with Ian, but the negotiating position did not allow us to execute it, so for the time being we will accept it.”
In the unlikely event that United decides to cut their losses with the £73 million winger in the summer, they want Sancho to play well at Dortmund.
It is improbable that they will recover their entire investment in a player who did not achieve success in his two seasons at Old Trafford.
