Although he hasn’t been successful, David Benavidez maintains that he has tried every humane measure to get into a high-paying, life-altering bout with Canelo Alvarez. Benavidez claims he offered to accept a lesser purse when Canelo (60-2-2, 39 KOs) fought for PBC, according to the Mexican Monster.
The end game for any possibility of a Canelo-Benavidez matchup occurring now that Canelo is no longer with PBC is Benavidez’s declaration that he won’t cross the street to fight him on DAZN. Nothing else needs to be said.
Benavidez is left with whatever PBC has for him since he is unwavering in his commitment to sticking with them and refusing to cross the street for a Canelo fight. The Mysterious Superfight
The Mysterious Superfight
The Monster from Mexico Benavidez asserts that he would have received $60 million had he accepted a $5 million fee to face Canelo. Although the accuracy of that number has never been confirmed, Benavidez finds it convenient to claim that Canelo received such a high offer.
The management of Benavidez would never consent to his facing Canelo for $5 million. The laugh test is not passed by that.
“That was perfectly OK with me. I’m not saying this person shouldn’t take anything, but he was taking everything. Regarding his attempts to force the Canelo fight, Benavidez told Thaboxingvoice, “I don’t give a f***; I wanted the opportunity.”
Money Talks, But Was the Battle Destroyed by It?
Canelo would naturally not bite at the number he’s putting out there because he can earn more money against Benavidez in Saudi Arabia. Once more, the $60 million that Benavidez is referring to has never been confirmed to exist. There was never a $55 million offer, according to Canelo’s trainer Eddy Reynoso, so it’s unclear where Benavidez is obtaining the $60 million that he’s telling the public.
Given that Canelo has never pursued a fight with Benavidez throughout his career, it must be difficult for him to respect the way the latter is urging a confrontation. Canelo wouldn’t press if someone didn’t want to fight him.
Canelo would go on, and Benavidez ought to follow suit. Show some grace and move on from Canelo.
