Manchester City won the UEFA Super Cup for the first time in their history after beating Sevilla on penalties
Ederson: City’s best player by a distance. Made important saves at 0-0, 1-0, and 1-1 to keep his side in the game. 8
Walker: A wild lunge in the second half left Guardiola unimpressed and the Sevilla goal came from his side. 5
Akanji: Tried in the John Stones role from centre-back pushing up but it only served to confuse City in the middle. 5
Ake: Soundly beaten for the opening goal and – understandably – took some time to click with Gvardiol. 5
Gvardiol: Not a debut that many pictured after his £77m move, given a tough time on the left. 5
Rodri: Mopped up loose balls well but also struggled more than usual to retain possession. 6
Kovacic: Some bright moments and plenty of attacking energy, although also showed he is still learning the system. 6
Foden: Plenty of industry in the middle but couldn’t influence the game in the way he likes to. 6
Palmer: Started brightly, then seemed to lose his confidence but picked it up again after that lovely looping header. 7
Grealish: Gave his full-back plenty of trouble and was scythed down for it, albeit never managed to really test the keeper. 7
Haaland: He couldn’t be blamed for being starved of service but there were also some sluggish touches in the box. 5
