The elite custodian, who made 398 appearances for the team and was our all-time leader in clean sheets until last year, is an expert on making an impact in M16.
It’s easy to say Peter is one of our finest players ever, let alone among those from Scandinavia, having won the Premier League five times and leading the Treble-winning club to Champions League triumph in 1999.
Schmeichel was asked by United Review about Rasmus Hojlund’s greatest qualities and the potential impact he can have on Erik ten Hag’s team after Hojlund joined the club in the summer.
He’s a very sweet boy, according to our prior keeper. I’ve been questioned a lot about him, and I always say that he has a lot of untapped potential.
He plays without any weaknesses. He is capable of being flawless in every aspect of his game. He must manage himself properly, and I have no doubt that he will do that, but it also depends on how he is being coached.
He is huge, strong, swift, physically fit, technically proficient, and tactically astute. This guy is everything. Everything you could desire in a football player, especially a striker. He also has the nose of a number 9.
Schmeichel believes that Hojlund is unlike any other player who has ever donned a United jersey at Old Trafford despite having only made one appearance for the Reds thus far, his excellent second-half cameo against Arsenal before the international break.
According to him, the thirty minutes versus Arsenal were not a false positive. “We saw who he is: he rushes in, intimidates defenders, wants the ball, isn’t scared to get involved, and his running pressures the opposition.
I’m very enthusiastic about him at United because I don’t think we’ve ever had a player like him. He just has whole and utter untapped potential.
“We’ve used a variety of players in combinations, but Wayne Rooney is the closest I can get. Rasmus is swift, which is different from Rooney, who isn’t slow.
Rasmus may be a player of that caliber, but I’m not saying he’s as good as Wayne because, my God, Wayne was so fantastic and he accomplished so much.
