In this summer’s transfer window, Liverpool may attempt to bring a Manchester City player to Anfield as Jurgen Klopp continues to restructure his team.
The Merseysiders have managed to bring in three midfielders this summer in the form of Wataru Endo, Dominic Szoboszlai, and Alexis Mac Allister as they want to improve and lower the average age of the team. Even though many names have recently been mentioned as prospective candidates for the center of the park, Klopp is reportedly still in support of another incoming player.
There may be a high-profile signing before Deadline Day given that Liverpool offered well over £100 million for Moises Caicedo, who was headed to Chelsea, and only spent a small portion of that sum on End.
According to Alex Crook, the chief football journalist for talkSPORT, Klopp is thinking about signing Kalvin Phillips, who has had trouble playing for the first team during the past few months.
Phillips moved to City from Leeds United last summer, but under Guardiola, he only started two league games, both of which came after City had won the championship. According to Crook, the midfielder had intended to compete for his position, but an offer from another team in Europe may put his commitment to the test.
Since Rodri presently occupies the No. 2 spot at City and the Spaniard has a spotless injury record, Phillips’ chances of making the Euro 2024 team next summer may become more difficult this season.
As one of the leaders of Leeds’ promotion side under Marcelo Bielsa, Phillips would offer Klopp the kind of maturity, experience, and composure that the Reds have lost in Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, and James Milner.
Liverpool is said to be chasing another defender, as well as midfield depth.
Phillips is valued at €32m by Transfermarkt.
