This week, we reported Italian news that Liverpool are seriously considering signing Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.
The striker’s contract expires in 2025, and Aurelio De Laurentiis, president of Napoli, has suggested that he may have changed his mind about signing a new one.
The 24-year-old’s change of heart is due to Liverpool, according to Italian journalist Valter De Maggio, who spoke to Televomero and was quoted by Area Napoli.
De Maggio asserts that due to the Reds’ interest, neither the frontman nor his agent, Roberto Calenda, have opted to sign an extension at the Naples club.
He continues, “Liverpool have reached an understanding with the player, and a deal must be reached with the Serie A champions for the transfer to materialize.”
“The parties had come to a renewal agreement, but Calenda and Osimhen later broke their word. What took place? An additional club from the Premier League was added. I’m referring to Liverpool,” he declared.
There would be regular communication, but I’ve now learnt that there would also be agreements in place. Let me be clear: Napoli would not be a party to the agreements because they would be made between the Reds and the player. We can only hope that Laurentiis will be able to keep Victor Osimhen at least until June.
It is uncertain whether other Italian media outlets will substantiate De Maggio’s claim regarding Liverpool.
Liverpool was interested in signing the Nigerian international during the same transfer window that he joined the Italian champions from Lille. His agent, Calenda, subsequently made this information public.
Osimhen contributed significantly to Napoli’s championship season last year by scoring 31 goals and dishing out five assists. In 10 games this season, he has six goals and an assist.
