Last night in Saudi Arabia, Anthony Joshua and Jarrell Miller rekindled their rivalry, with the British fighter emerging victorious.
In 2019, Joshua was supposed to defend his heavyweight world belts against Miller in New York, but the American was forced to withdraw at the last minute after it was discovered that he had tested positive for multiple drugs. Andy Ruiz Jr. took his position and went on to defeat Anthony Joshua in one of the biggest upsets in boxing history.
Both Miller and Joshua will compete on this weekend’s Day of Reckoning super-card in Saudi Arabia; Miller will face British fighter Daniel Dubois, while Joshua will face Otto Wallin. And when the two ran into each other in the hotel on Monday night, Miller appeared to imply that Joshua won’t take on Deontay Wilder in their scheduled bout for March 9 of the next year.
How come you believe I won’t fight him?” Miller was asked by Joshua. “You’re not going to fight him, because I can smell p****,” the American shot back. Joshua: “You would do it, though. I know who I’ll fight and I know you.” Miller: “At how many occasions have I wanted to fight Deontay and he has refused? Come on, buddy, you’re talking to Deontay now.
Joshua replied, “Thats between you and deontay.” “I’m talking about you,” said Miller. Joshua: “Take a look at my track record. Who did I avoid? I ought to have confronted you! Have you engaged in combat with Andy? Miller: I would burn him. You are mine.” Joshua: “You are not wanted. I operate at a distinct level. Miller said, “I’m not taking about levels, boxing is boxing.” After they had argued some more, Joshua gave his final remarks before leaving the area: He said, “Welcome to my show.” “Remember you’re working for me on Saturday night, I’m still your landlord.”
Joshua is adamant that Miller won’t divert him from his focus when they meet again at the press conference on Thursday. “At the end of this week, I will reveal everything to you, but for now, Otto Wallin is my only priority,” Joshua declared. “Not this week. I just need to let him know that he is beneath me and not even in my sights.” In actuality, I was thinking, “That clown is beneath me; why do I even talk to him?” I should be concentrating on larger and greater things.
