Kevin De Bruyne, a midfielder for Manchester City, has given an important update regarding his injury from Tuesday night’s match against Tottenham.
With their victory over Ange Postecoglou’s club this week, Pep Guardiola and his team made sure that their destiny in the Premier League title fight remained firmly in their own hands going into the final day of the English top flight season.
The reigning Premier League champions had a tough test in a game that could have ended their season, but two goals from Erling Haaland in the second half saw them through, taking three points and moving closer to an incredible English football record with a victory over West Ham.
With one FA Cup final remaining and a repeat victory after winning the Treble last season, Manchester City could make Premier League history by being the first team to win the top division for four straight seasons.
But for their next two games, Pep Guardiola will almost definitely want his entire roster available, and the coach will be worried about Kevin De Bruyne’s forced substitution due to a serious injury scare in the second half of their victory over Tottenham.
The day following Manchester City’s crucial 0-2 victory against Tottenham in North London, Kevin De Bruyne spoke with Sky Sports and provided an update on the issue that finally resulted in his removal from the pitch in the second half.
After their game in the capital the previous evening, Manchester City was back at the City Football Academy for a recuperation session. “I think I’m alright,” De Bruyne said. “It hurts a little, but it’s only in the achilles; it’s really sore.”
“And at that moment, it felt a little bit like a knife at that moment that I got the impact,” De Bruyne went on. But it’s not terrible because it’s (just) an impact. Everything will work out.
Since the beginning of the year, De Bruyne has been in incredible form for Manchester City. He missed the first half of the season due to hamstring surgery that he had shortly after the season’s first Premier League game.
Despite having only played for the last five months of the season, De Bruyne has managed to score six goals and dish out eighteen assists in his 24 appearances across all competitions. This has placed him among the club’s top goal contributors for the whole campaign.
