Due to the quantity of young players making their breakthrough in South America, several teams from throughout Europe have shifted their attention to this market in recent years. Real Madrid and Barcelona are two La Liga teams that have investigated this in particular, though Atletico Madrid is now keeping a watch on things.
They have taken an interest in Wesley Gassova of Corinthians, among other players. Goal Brasil (via MD) reports that Atleti formally inquired about the specifics of a potential trade for the 19-year-old, who plays primarily as a left winger.
Their interest hasn’t gone any farther, though, since they learned that Corinthians would need at least €30 million in order to close a transaction. Like Atleti, Real Betis reacted anachronistically to the figure as well.
This summer, Atletico Madrid is prepared to spend a lot of money, but a player like Wesley is not at the top of their priority list. Prior to the transfer market opening early next month, they have their sights set on defenders and a new striker.
