Mikel Arteta has been urged by Bacary Sagna to reaffirm his allegiance to Arsenal by signing a long-term contract.
Sagna, who spent three years playing with the Spaniard at the Emirates Stadium, maintains that acquiring Arteta’s signature would be the “most important signing Arsenal will make this summer.” The Gunners boss is in the final year of his current contract.
Under Arteta’s leadership, the Gunners have emerged as strong championship challengers in the Premier League, won the FA Cup, and qualified for the Champions League again after a six-year break.
“Mikel committing to the club with a new contract is the most important signing Arsenal will make this summer,” Sagna told CoinPoker. “Mikel Arteta is the main reason Arsenal is in the running for the championship. He has completely changed Arsenal since taking over as manager, and for that you have to give him credit.
He has transformed Arsenal into a true family and entirely altered the spirit and atmosphere of the whole football team. Every member of the organization, including the players, coaches, staff, and even the people who don’t work in football, has a genuine bond with the supporters.
“He got Arsenal back into the race. The team has a newfound hunger and competitiveness that wasn’t there when he arrived. I got to spend some time with Arteta and his coaching staff when they traveled to Dubai for the winter break, and it was evident how committed each and every one of them was to the cause.
“He deserves a great deal of praise for fostering an atmosphere where people are always striving to do better. Seeing the closeness among all of the club members was incredible. It is crucial for a club to have this vibe.”
Arteta, who graduated from Barcelona’s prestigious La Masia program, was rumored to be thinking about moving to Barcelona earlier this year. He labeled as “fake news” the Spanish rumors that said he planned to leave Arsenal, nevertheless.
In remarks made earlier this month, Arteta hinted that “uncertainty is quite helpful” when speaking about his future. “In football, it’s all about today—what we’re going to do today, and hopefully what you can do tomorrow,” he said.
“I believe that this unpredictability is quite beneficial in this line of work. If nothing else, it keeps me alert, motivated, and eager to go again. We get along well with every player in the football club, in my opinion. Things will work themselves out, and I’m genuinely pleased where I am.”
