At the MotoGP Malaysian GP, Jorge Martín finished the Sprint race in second place, narrowly behind Álex Márquez. As a result, he defeated Francesco Bagnaia of Ducati, while his title opponent came in third. He wasn’t totally happy with the outcome, though.
After the first corner, the Spanish rider for Prima Pramac admitted to making a mistake in his braking: “I think the start wasn’t the best one, but I think it was more the braking than the start.” In an attempt to be safe, I braked a little too soon, but I finished the first lap in fourth place. Thus, we must undoubtedly get better for future.
Martín clarified that his disappointment stems from his conviction that he could win the match, saying, “It’s not about the championship.” I believed I could prevail today. I thought I was faster than Pecco at that moment, but Álex got a little violent when I passed him because he made a mistake. I assumed that I would eventually catch up to him and distance myself, but Álex was undoubtedly faster today. But I managed to bounce back.
The rider wearing number 89 claimed that his position following the start complicated things for him and increased pressure on the front tyre: “My front pressure went crazy, so high, from the beginning because we were expecting to be first or second and I was fourth, so everything got so complicated.” Most importantly, I was able to close the distance with Pecco and then pull away once I adjusted to riding in a different manner. He didn’t stay as close to me as I had hoped. This pleases me, and let’s see if we can close the distance tomorrow as well.
