Dustin Poirier is now considering entering a fourth battle with his fierce adversary Conor McGregor, as he doubles down on his desire to compete at UFC 300 in April of next year.
“I’ve been considering 300.” You know, I believe that’s a significant event. Following UFC Fight Night 232, Poirier told Megan Olivi. “That would be like, pretty cool for me, because like I said in another interview, I missed 200 and I’m not going to be around for 400.”
“Just need to observe the opponents and the surrounding area at that moment; I’m not sure what will transpire. However, I believe I will compete at the start of next year; we only need to find the opponent.
“If [Islam] Makhachev and [Charles] Oliveira are fighting each other. How long will it take, you know? [Justin] Gaethje is going to be the next; he’s going to wait for that since he’s promised a shot. I have to fight someone, but it will depend on who I can fight the hardest.
At that moment, Conor McGregor’s name was spoken. Although Poirier had previously dismissed the thought of facing McGregor once more, it appears he is now warming up to the concept.
I’ll see if I can handle another bout with McGregor later. I would definitely try to get him to stop talking once and for all, but we’ll see. He won’t stop talking even if I hit his ass again. I’m up 2-1 against him, so it’s a big battle, and I don’t really see any other reason for it.
According to McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh, the UFC was considering having McGregor make his eagerly anticipated comeback later in the year. Michael Chandler appeared to be the most likely opponent, but nothing is official yet, so anything might happen.
