Richarlison sends heartwarming 7-word message after brace in Spurs v Everton
After barely 30 minutes, Dominic Calvert-Lewin tied the score with a header from close range, however it was ultimately ruled to be Jack Harrison’s goal. The visitors had taken the lead early on.
Sean Dyche will have been encouraged by the possibility of winning all three points, having controlled from the first three minutes.
That was, until Richarlison found the back of the net shortly before halftime, leaving the Toffees to hope for a late equalizer from Jarrad Branthwaite to salvage a point.
It was an exciting afternoon for Goodison Park as they faced a team fighting for Champions League football once more.
However, everything was ruined by the Brazilian attacker for the opposition, who regrettably and quietly scored a brace.
What was said about Everton by Richarlison?
Richarlison stayed on Merseyside for four prosperous years, growing close to the team in spite of its flaws.
He was a motivating character who carried the team’s goal-scoring load throughout the 2021–2022 season to make sure relegation was avoided.
Not to add his antics in winding up virtually every other football fan outside of Everton, he became a hero for that alone.
Despite his £60 million move to north London in 2022, he has obviously not forgotten the special affinity he built with Evertonians.
As seen by his most recent Instagram post, he had apparently shared numerous photos with the young Everton supporter with whom he was once again posing.
The sweet seven-word caption, “Yesterday I met my long-time partner,” was written next to it.
Why did Richarlison’s supporters cheer for him?
After Everton’s 2-2 draw with Spurs, there has been much discussion about whether or not the home crowd ought to have cheered for their former star player.
But what he did subsequently was what garnered him the praise, not his discovery of the net against them.
He celebrated by spinning away at first, but it took him a moment to remember who he had just scored against. He abruptly stopped and buried his face in his hands.
He was surrounded by his teammates, who wanted to congratulate him on his well-executed close-range left-footed finish that had given them the lead. His subdued celebration demonstrated his continued deep regard for his previous club.
After his goal, Richarlison held his hands up in remorse and prayed for forgiveness as the group surrounding him dispersed.
The applause was directed towards that reaction rather than the conclusion itself, and in my opinion, that was a legitimate response from the supporters. After all, the scars from his departure are still very much visible, and it’s generally accepted that if Everton hadn’t been in such a terrible situation, he would not have left.
Even after leaving the club over two years ago, his passion for it is still apparent.
