When Scott McKenna’s contract at the City Ground expires in the summer, he most likely will leave.
Scott McKenna, who completed a season-long loan move to FC Copenhagen, concedes that he would have preferred his time at Nottingham Forest to have ended differently.
The center-back completed his transfer from Aberdeen in 2020 and has spent the following three and a half years at the City Ground. McKenna was instrumental in Steve Cooper’s team’s 2022 promotion to the Premier League.
Before being taken off of the team, the 27-year-old had only appeared in the first five Premier League games of the current campaign. Given that his contract is slated to expire at the end of the season, the 1-1 draw with Burnley in September was probably the final game he played.
Having played a supporting role this season, he believed his tenure at Trentside would be different. “It was challenging. He said to the Danish publication Bold, “I became close to a lot of people in those three and a half years who were all around me and supported me when I wasn’t playing.”
Naturally, I would have preferred a different outcome, but that is the nature of football. Not everything you want comes to pass. I continued to come in every day and give it my all at the gym. There was no reason to be unhappy. I remained committed to the team’s success.”
He continued by saying that he was still driven to work out and stay in top physical condition. “Maintaining my best physical condition has always been my first focus. McKenna stated, “I would be prepared to play at Forest or somewhere else if asked.”
