Spurs midfielder Lucas Bergvall has given a positive report following a scare during the preseason.
The 18-year-old formally signed with Spurs earlier this summer following the team’s £8.5 million contract with Djurgarden, his previous team, in February.
The fact that Bergvall has been given the No. 15 shirt for the next Premier League season implies that Ange Postecoglou’s first squad will likely use him.
Many of Postecoglou’s young players have made an impression this summer so far. For example, Bergvall and fellow newcomer Archie Gray worked effectively together during the team’s 5-1 victory over Hearts earlier this month.
When Bergvall was substituted in the first half of his team’s 2-0 victory over QPR at Loftus Road, there was cause for alarm, but Postecoglou was keen to play down any significant worries.
The boy described his panic to We Are Tottenham TV, saying, “Everything is okay.” It was nothing more than a small amount with my bone here, just to make sure. The purpose was to confirm that it was insignificant.
In Saturday’s 3-2 victory over Vissel Kobe in Tokyo, Mikey Moore, a fellow adolescent, scored a late goal to defeat the Japanese champions. Bergvall entered the game in the second half.
Moore’s preseason performance is another encouraging indicator for the next season, according to Postecoglou.
“Since we brought him in, Mickey has been outstanding. He did at the end of the previous season, therefore he earned his spot on the roster right now,” he stated.
“We could see in training that he was handling himself really well, and that carried over into pre-season training, so he got a run with the first team.”
Spurs play Bayern Munich at the same location on Saturday after playing a K League All-Stars XI in Seoul on Wednesday.
On Saturday, August 10, they will then play host to the German powerhouses. Nine days later, they will start their League season away to newly promoted Leicester.
