One of the best performances in his seven years at the club, according to Pep Guardiola, was Manchester City’s 4-1 Premier League triumph over Liverpool.
Julian Alvarez, Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, and Jack Grealish all scored as City outscored Jurgen Klopp’s squad at the Etihad.
Jurgen Klopp’s team, now sixth in the Premier League and vying for a spot in the UEFA Champions League for the upcoming season, got off to a fast start thanks to a goal from Mohamed Salah before City gained control of the game.
Minute one to minute 93, it was a magnificent performance, 52-year-old Guardiola said to BT Sport.
“Until we gave up the goal, we were performing very well. They usually pose a threat during transitions, but we played exceptionally well across the board. One of our better performances in my seven years was that one (at the club).
“The players understood they weren’t misbehaving (when we went 1-0 down). After halftime, we slightly modified our procedure. We were fortunate to score the second goal, but the game was so even for the entire 93 minutes.
Grealish put on a strong performance, earning the man of the match honors for his goal and assist.
The 27-year-old acknowledged feeling ill this morning before the game but said his performance levels now feel “back to normal.”
I was using the lavatory! I was unwell all morning, but now I feel fine,” he continued.
“I adore it; I adore practicing and playing. There is nothing better than when things are going well; I feel like myself again, fit, and confident. I’m excited after scoring and providing the assist.
“That performance was outstanding. We anticipated that the game against Liverpool would be challenging. We wanted to get this season’s final stretch off to a strong start. We were outstanding in the second half after coming back from being down.
At his post-game press conference, Guardiola also gave Grealish accolades.
“I think he’s been incredibly well this season,” Guardiola remarked. The Jack Grealish that (Aston) Villa supporters are most familiar with is this one. He is fully convinced, and his initial behavior—when he wasn’t playing—was excellent. The cheers from the home crowd were fantastic.
The next game for City is on April 8 when they visit Southampton.
