Mauricio Pochettino, manager of Chelsea, claims that he gave no promises to Lionel Messi during his tenure at Paris Saint-Germain and that Cole Palmer will receive the same treatment.
Cole Palmer made a high-profile transfer from Manchester City to Chelsea on deadline day, but Mauricio Pochettino has told the attacking midfielder that just because he cost so much money doesn’t guarantee he will play.
According to the Argentine, “The player needs to come and to perform and let us manage,” according to football.london. Then, as I’m sure it was at City, if he deserves to play, he will. For us, however, even when a player is purchased for a high price at Chelsea, it does not imply that they will always play. Thinking in that manner is incorrect.
“People must be made aware of that. We sign players so they can participate in the squad, be a member of the squad, and be a part of the club. Participate in the dynamic. We never sign athletes whose participation we guarantee. Even when we signed Messi from Paris Saint-Germain, it has never happened.
Palmer may need to put up a fight as the season progresses to make this Chelsea team.
But at this point, it wouldn’t be shocking to see the English teenager enter the Blues’ starting lineup.
Pochettino presently has no viable choices for the No. 10 position because Carney Chukwuemeka and Christopher Nkunku are both currently sidelined due to injuries.
Cole Palmer can win a place in Mauricio Pochettino’s team
Palmer looks like he does have the talent to be a starter for Chelsea. His excellent goal for City against Arsenal in the Community Shield was just one example of what he can do.
The 21-year-old is capable of playing as a No. 10 and is also at ease on the right side. With that in mind, it’s simple to picture him beginning there as Raheem Sterling switches to the opposite wing.
There will be rivalry to make Pochettino’s team once all of his attacking players are healthy again.
Palmer obviously believes in his possibilities, though, as Chelsea is where the England U21 international left his childhood club.
